  1. I just spent ages with a flat screwdriver and some markers on my wall untill they were at a 'reasonable' level...
  2. If you got a newer model then they plug strgith in and there is no messing around to do.. wish i knew this before i started... mine are fine now... adjusted them ok..
  3. I'm 29.. and the misses is 30 (she has the VR6)
  4. I feel for you son... did the same on mine.. my hands kept catching those clips...!
  5. Check on ebay - I know there is a company called 'gtisvw' that does some "off the shelf" kits...
  6. I believe they are different. At the top right hand side of obd1 inlet manifold, there is a metal grooved pipe where idle valve connects to. On the obd2 manifold there there is no pipe. Also the port on obd2 which connects to t/body is slightly bigger.
  7. OBD2..... I will still disconnect the battery and leave it running for a while and keep an eye on it. Thanks.
  8. I got some 195/40/17's oin mine and picked them up for about £70 each on the bay - Hankook make.. not too bad.. just a bit under-steery in the wet?
  9. I'm asking because I'm going to be installing my cat back pipe and scorpion centre section to the VR.. so when I fire it up I want it to learn/adjust to the new air flow settings with my BMC? I've read somewhere that the ECU leanrs for the first couple of hundred miles after re-setting?
  10. I got the meguiars clay kit.. it's amazing.. give a real glass finish to the bodywork and u be amazed how much crap comes off the car.. a little expensive but if you do buy it - make usre u break up the clay bar into smaller chunks before applying
  11. I got scammed out of £150 once (long time ago) - paid through paypal.. and they only refunded me back £60. Hopefully they have improved and there protection actually works. Good luck.
  12. Anyway, went to this last week.. was a good laugh.. lots of vw's from polo's to golfs to camper vans! A few nice sounding VR's pulled up - but this mk1 16v gti turbo stole the night.. [lightbox=../../e107_files/public/1175086624_4477_FT164895_21032007840.jpg][/lightbox]
  13. It's the labour thats going to roger you.. me and my old man replaced mine with uprated ones and took us about 2.5/3 hours.. garage will take about 4 minimum (tea break/chit-chat/etc..)... even on £45/hour labour (which is a good rate)... your looking around £180.. could get it cheaper if paying by cash? I paid around £35 for 4-wheel laser alignment with camber/toe adjustment... so you total will be over the £200 mark!
  14. Not a great picture.. had to brighten the image.. rim is real close to the edge of the tyre so I have to be MEGA careful when parking.
  15. Looks sweet...another 5-door... like it... de-badge perhaps...?
  16. My 'AA' man recommended a local garage that specialises in reconditioned alternators... or try yell.co.uk ??

You still ain't sorted your ECU problem out? Can't you go back to person who fitted it (unless it was you) ?
  18. I've got 195/40/17 on my TT Comps although they don't catch, don't seem to fill me with confidence going round corners or int he wet..? I also got 205/40/17 on my 6-spokeTT alloys and have had my rear arches done for £100 and doesn't catch but havne't loaded up the back yet!
  19. Answer to Question 1: What does OFFSET (et) mean? Your car requires a unique offset. This is where the wheel will sit in relation to the bodyline of the vehicle, realistically you can go 5-7mm outside these recommendations, as there are often other factors that need to be considered. Offset is usually stamped on the wheel and is measured in millimetres of et (et is the short form of the German word 'Einpresstiefe' which literally translates as insertion depth).
  20. Mine died not so long ago - got a re-conditioned one fitted for £50.. done in 30min.. couldn't be bothered with checking the old one...
  21. I got the lead removal tool from the group buys on here and have a set of megaleads to fit, and was wondering how to remove the existing ones without damaging them...? Does the other end from the coil pack just pull out?
  22. I got 195/40/17 fitted to my TT comps.. I used to get a bit of rubbing with 205 (even with rolled rear arches!) - but you definately get the understeer in the wet..
  23. Did you try cleaning the maf with some carb cleaner when you were "playing" with it?
  24. It's worth a look.. will get the local tyre/exhaust place to get them in the ramp and take a look...
  25. I was wondering if I could swap the Sebring Cat back exhaust on my 2.0 8v GTi for the standard exhaust with scorpion rear box on my VR? I've looked at some online stores and some exhausts are advertised for "8v/16v GTi and VR6"... so was thinking maybe I could get away with swapping them over to get a nicer exhaust note....? GTi one: [lightbox=../../e107_files/public/1174830347_4477_FT0_exhaustgti.jpg][/lightbox] VR6 one: [lightbox=../../e107_files/public/1174830392_4477_FT0_exhaustvr.jpg][/lightbox]
