Anyone got one of these fitted (advertised on awesomegti site)? They claim a 5% increase in power by reducing air intake temperature. Cheap extra few bhp for £45, if they are any good and do what they say on the tin, or a waste of time and money? *-)

My car has the standard fitment alarm on it. When it goes off it is quite quiet, not like any alarms I've had in the past.In fact ,my mobile makes more noise. Can the volume be adjusted and if so, anyone know how? Cheers.

VR6 - exhaust silencers and cams and remap question
jb9999 replied to matth76's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
The box before the back box is the big square one that loops over the rear axle mate. You probably would get some gains but the exhaust will be a lot noisier. -
uprated thermostat........ worth it??
jb9999 replied to c4mbl's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
If you want to lower the temperature your engine runs at , definitely worth it.It's the 160 degees one you want. Opens about 10 degrees lower than the standard one. Quite a few people have these in. -
Full Closure Alarms - Golf VR6 - a warning !!!!

Be thankful it wasn't your neck stuck then. -
I picked up a new MAF yesterday from GSF. I had to swap it over onto the filter in the shop, and during some idle chat , the bloke serving me said Bosch make a fortune reconditioning these units. He claims they are that fragile going over speed bumps too fast can bugger them. Is there any truth in this or is he spouting shite? *-) .

No he didn't. Dick Turpin did.

If you want a de-cat, you get one, fuck the tree-hugging green bastards. We're all gonna die someday, might as well take some shrubbery with us. £160 semms ok for a pattern cat, or you could get a high-flow one for £300 which doesn't need to be changed for MOT, unlike the de-cat.

Probably didn't have the removal tool so just yanked them off .

Like them. Look similar to some I've seen I want made by Kei, except the spoked bits are gunmetal with a polished stainless steel rim.How much?

spluttering engine getting right on my threpany bits.
jb9999 replied to juliet's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Sounds like what mine was like. Try disconnecting the MAF and see what it runs like? Mine run great apart from a flat spot about the 2500rpm mark. Put a new MAF in and the power is back and no flat spot.Or if you have a frind with a vr as well, try theirs on your car to see if there is any difference. -
I recently got one from ECP for £140, but have since found out GSF do them for £125. From a dealer think they are nearer the £200 mark. The unit I got was a Beru one (made by either Bosche or Bilstein, can't remember which) and was the same as the one I took off, so they could be original equipment, not sure though.

Yep, threads on mk2 are different to the five stud mk3 so I'm afraid you'll need some new ones.

Use grease on brake pipes after youv'e cleaned them up. Underseal will just make the inspector think you have something to hide. Also VR6Steve, those non-damping adjustables sound very exclusive, and very uncomfortable. Do you mean non-adjustable dampers? *-)
-
If money is not a problem, why don't you just get it re-sprayed? *-)

Is that you in your avatar VR6Lee or a model from a knitwear catalogue?

Just had a quick look at my spare, and it does look the same. The only difference on mine is there is a cover on the terminals I refered to. The connection for the harness has a 5 pin male connection on the unit. Hope that makes sense.
-
Were they built up ready to fit when you bought them, or was there some sub-assembley required? You are right mate, there should not be any play on the strut when it is jacked up.Not between the strut and the top mount anyway.
-
Necessity is the mother of Invention (i) I had Bilstein gas dampers on my mk2 and they were excellent. The jury is still out on the vr. Loads of good feedback for the G-Max kit, so I'm a bit torn between the G-Max and the more expensive Koni's? Decisions, decisions!
-
At first glance, it does , mate. After a closer look, mine hasn't got those four exposed terminal things on the top, mine also has a plastic channel for the harness to clip into and the socket for the plug looks different. Is it supposed to be for a VR?

I had this problem with a Jamex kit I had mate. Even when the top mounting nut was tightened as far as it would go, it still didn't pull the strut up tight with the strut top mount, so rattled its bollocks off on uneven roads. Can you turn the top mounting cup freely when the car is parked up? or does it feel tight. I had to use washers under the top nut to take up the free play it had and get the strut up against the top mount. Shit really, you shouldn't have to piss about like that to get the struts to fit properly, assuming they are new. Cack engineering.Forgot to ask before I started ranti

I had Jamex damper and springs on one of my Audi sports and I wouldn't waste my money to be honest mate. Save up and get a decent suspension kit. They are cack, in fact, yicky yacky birds cacky.

Thanks for clearing that up mk3anni. Still haven't a clue what he's talking about. -

jb9999 replied to SevensOdd's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Do you mean vw's in general or the vr engined type. What's a possible 9 second vehicle mean? Have to be a bit more specific. -
Yep, I have it disconnected now MightyVR6, and runs nearly perfect. When connected splutters up to about 3500rpm and huge power loss. Actually wheelspun it this morning(accidental) which it didn't do before! Cheers mate.
