  2. This is my latest engine conversion project. I was lucky enough a couple of months ago to get hold of a brand new R36 engine. After my last 2.9 Rotrex supercharged effort it was either an R32 or R36, so when this came up I would have been mad not to take the oppertunity! Thanks goes to Andy and Miles at Storm Developments for an excellent deal and very rare oppertunity. I have to say the 3.6 with its 24 valve and variable valve timing is in a diferent league to the old 12 valve engines. With 280-300hp out of the box it was the obvious choice. As some of you may know the 3.6 is an FSI engine which does cause I small problem. The FSI injectors would not flow enough fuel for what I had planned so the only way was to run a regular injection setup. The throttle is also drive by wire so a cable throttlebody setup is needed. To enable me to run standard type injectors I had to fabricate a new inlet manifold as there was not one available off the shelf! None of what I am planning is new the guys at Storm have had their 3.6s running for ages, I just like doing things my way! One is normally aspirated running the FSI setup mapped up to 340hp and 300 lb/ft! The other is charged with unknown figures and awaiting a new inlet manifold set up. The engine is actually out of a Q7 or Toureg and had a very deep sump that would have sat on the ground! First job was to buy and new Passat jobbie with a new strainer. Even the sump is a work of art, I have never seen one so baffled and with a crank scrapper too! In the second photo I am just checking the auxillary drive pulley bolt. Some of you might have read about the bolt failing and detroying the engine! This was only on the early engines though, fortunately the one I have is a much later engine with the correct strength bolt. The pump on the front of the head in the third photo is the cam driven FSI pump. There is also a vacuum pump on the side of the head which you can just see. Inlet ports on these engines are huge! The last four photos are of the engine bolted up to the box just before it was dropped in. It is an 02A but it is not as simple as bolting it straight on! More updates to follow. Alex
  3. Mk2Vr6 Evolution II

WOW, this will be such a buzz to drive, LOL, you are going to love it!!
  4. R32 into mk2

BWS is R36, BLV is passat and BHK is Toureg. If you want a 3.6 engine let me know. Alex
  5. Yeah car runs fine thanks. Just running N/A for now which is a handful in itself. Might have more of an update in a month or so.
  6. Which VR6 Motor ?

Have you looked at the 24 valve engines? 2.8, 3.2 and 3.6s. 280-290 hp with a standard R32 running Emerald or a 280-290hp 12v running 8 psi with either a turbo or supercharger. I know which one I would go for everytime. If you work out the costs involved going the turbo route properly to get the reliability its a no brainer.
  7. rough estimate for gearbox rebuild and fitting lsd

Whats wrong with your box to need a rebuild? Shims, some bearings and syncros are dealer only. I would offer to do it but I need to build another one for myself first.
  8. No John its a Syncro, no need for Haldex as its still only N/A, amazing car though!

Have you tried contacting the supplier to see if he will send you one?

    What brand is it?
  11. Turbo or Supercharger?

How many of you have ever been out in a Rotrex charged car though?
  12. new cams?

Are they for a N/A or boosted application?
  13. how difficult to convert 2wd to 4wd golf mk3 turbo

Are you sure the syncro stuff will take the power/torque?
  14. help please with gearbox

CCM (Golf VR6 02A) and CHN (Corrado VR6 02A) are the boxes to look out for. Alex
  15. Questions on compression ratio (CR)

If you want to make a 12v engine bulletproof you need to spend a fair bit of money. I spent thousands on mine forged rods, pistons etc and the head gasket still let go twice at 25+psi. Have a look to see what you can buy a 3.2 engine for?
  16. Questions on compression ratio (CR)

I hate to say it but 8.0:1 is just too low, 8.7:1 is as low as you want to go really.
  17. Questions on compression ratio (CR)

We have done 5 or 6 MK3 R32 conversions at work in the past month and they all made between 280 and 290 hp, the economy is still reasonable also especially for a daily driver! I really do think you should consider going to the 3.2 its just a much better engine all round.
  18. Questions on compression ratio (CR)

How much do you want to spend mate? How much power are you aiming for?
  19. Is the vrt gunna go boom! soon? :s

Are the 2 plugs that are sooty, damaged in anyway?
  20. Painting gearbox and engine block

Ive used cellulose, Hammerite and acrylic over the years. All will be fine for both.
  21. I run a Magnaflow 3" high flow jobbie.
  22. Rebuild or r32 swap?

    Too true Mike!
  23. Rebuild or r32 swap?

You can go R32 for less then 2K easily! Its only an engine, exhaust manifold, throttle and wiring/management.
  24. 02M Gearbox conversion mount bracket.

Any pics of the above mount?
