  1. yep, obd1 with a distributer. one of the earliest. in fact I like to think VW only sold 500 or so on a J plate. Lord only knows how many are still in once piece. I've only ever seen one other in the flesh and a heard of hand full on here, like less then 10.
  2. the they have the same engine identifier - AAA. Engine numbers are unique to each lump manufectured.
  3. the closest I can find is this http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/internet/jsp/ECHID-Internet-History-Request.jsp but I suspect you won't know any of the required info
  4. ... at Jim's, eight premium members came together Some major jobs where in the offing as well as some little niggles. VR6 Nat was first up having her long awaited coilovers fitted by the VR6OC pit team of Jim Potter and Cabrioman. At times, whilst her car was wheel less and up on four axle stands, her face was a picture of concern. Unwarrented but she does love her car and it shows. Even cleaning oily fingerprints of the bonnet whilst it was still up in the air. Feeling like the proverbial third wheels, GaVR6in, GoonerSteve and I tackled Steve's new lights. A dab of PlusGas released the 1
  5. also on newer models (OBD2) the keys are coded to the ECU so cannot be copied at your local cheapey key shop.
  6. my last bottle went into the valver. it's on my shopping list at Bristol, Will any one have a smidge of synta silver / fuchs? Don't want to bring the whole 20L so I've brimmed a 5L bottle but might still be a little short.
  7. holts do a number of exhaust patch up products
  8. snap, except mine was a new heater matrix. I'll have my haynes for such generic problems
  9. I'll go looking for my strut tops then. thy gotta be here somewhere. I saw them not so long ago and thought best remember where they were! By drill is fully charged although I have no decent bits. did you just bleed them or replace the entire system?
  10. scrub that, mines dot4. last time I had a garage change the valvers they used less than 1l but you'll need a far amount for the bleed process so I'd guess 3 bottles but it'll keep if unopened so you might not want to risk it for the cost of a fourth.
  11. probably best to get enough to do entire system as I'm guessing you dont know when it was last changed or if it's got 4 or 5.1 in at the moment. Cant find out how much that needs though. I've got some old stuff you can use in the jam jar during the bleed process.
  12. anyone who wants on going help should bring a SD card or USB memory stick ;-)
  13. but it's not the busiest road so job's like steves compression test can be done roadside, do you have a stash of newspaper jim?
  14. many hands make light work. headlights is 5 mins tops. and even I can help with the hoses although I do hate those spring clips. think compression testting is ripe for a members guide as halfords are now selling testers for £18 or so. in fact the whole day should be written up as an indication of the dedication of premium members to each other
  15. Between Nat and Calico I'll be needing my deck chair ;-) the front braces are looking iffy as I've misplaced the strut top rings :^)
  16. Oh, cleaning the ISV might help as well
  17. there's a threaded stud which can be adjusted to tweak the 'closed' position. bit difficult to get to with the throttke body in situ
  18. my list in order of importance. brake pads oil change strut braces but am happy to crack on myself knowing that support, and Jim's extensive toolkit, is available if I get stuck. Can help with vag-com and electrical type probs. Got my own axle stands, oil catch tank and some tools. think I need a 7mm hex key and 19mm socket for sump plug. I'll try and get you connected to the shop email as well Jim
  19. once I'd found out how little you need, looks good
