  1. Well awful nice of him to compare the VR6 to a TVR mind in the first place.... Must think they are damn fast to be even thought of in the same sentence as a thumping V8 powered spaceframed British sportscar.... ;-)
  2. Yeah very true, but tarantella is supposed to be a good alternative with regard to cost... A couple of the guys have just started deployment of this... should be fun ;-) And when you try an use single signon/ pass through authentication with hpprotect and windows SE.... trust me.... The problem is we use about 12 products that seriously affect Citrix.. Its all smoke and mirrors hehe... anyway back on subject ;-)
  3. I annihilated a cooper s on the motorway once.... wasnt impressed tbh. And that was a 2.8 vr with a chip....
  4. Im a 3rd line Datacentre Engineer specialising in Citrix
  5. GTI is front wheel drive, R32 is 4wd... :-)
  6. Always fed up- and always things to change and never the funds to allow it! :-( Ah well be happy you have a dub with a top engine :-)
  7. christ mate- youve had some serious issues!!! Ive owned 3 VR6's and never had that many problems with all of them combined. My syncro has needed quite a few bits, but it didnt need it- i just wanted to do them to make sure it was right....
  8. Jay: Theres a special tool that screw into the sprak plug socket to keep the valve up when changing the seal- its a vw tool, but a specialist should have- this means you dont need to remove the head..... Its in the bentley manual My opinion- id just get the valve seals done- your not getting smoke all the time (i presume the engine is fairly quiet?) just after letting it off thorttl on the overun then booting it (same as my old VR) Like you say with short journeys, parts like the seals detiorate quickly- they go hard and shrink.... my guess is you valve guides are fine.... :-) if it was moking
  9. Ive heard a few people say they get really hot, and they have used some kind of wrapping to stop the heat transferring to the engine..... Im sure someone will elaborate :-)
  10. Thats what i was looking at when posting the other day..... :-)
  11. Good point there kev, if its under full throttle then yeah unfortunately i would push towards bores but the VR bottom end is usually very strong- the garage who does the work on my VR havent had one failure (and they race them in the VW cup) Does it happen for instance if yuo go down a hill on the over-run, and then hoof it? This would indicate seals, and like Kev says possibly valve guides they'd have to be checked....
  12. no probs - good investment too fella :-) One point to make- you will need to slightly modify the lead guide rails to get the 8.5mm leads to fit- just nic one side of the tiny ridges which hold the lead in the guide.....
  13. downer :-( Hope you get it sorted soon fella :-)
  14. so i suppose thats the same as saying - if you run your fuel line along the body of the car you risk abbrasion of the fuel line and the car will blow up when it leaks? I would have thought if its securely fastened and isnt next to any 'sharp edges' and is well padded- which id say youd be very careful about checking, then you'll be okay- i think youd know in an instant if the car started running VERY lean..... long before you caused any damage???? Just a thought thuogh
  15. Nah its not messy - lots of people have had this done- its the best way to add programs, and seems a much more adaptable method of adding modified programs to ECU's than a piggyback... (this is what ive learnt from a few different people over the last few days... a have a socket on my current syncro, and so did my last VR.. Bothwere proper jobs- i wouldnt even think about attempting this myself though....
  16. Im nearly 100% sure you cant just flash the memory of an OBD2 mk3- like you can with a mk4. To add install a modified program you will need to get a port soldered onto the ECU, and then the chips can be flashed and plugged into the port. This is what superchips do for sure. Once AMD have done this they can then remap the car whenever you want by just replacing the chip with a new one....
  17. honestly mate- at that price - dont bother- Magnecor leads will set you back a 100 quid- and they are a far superior product! Plus a 10 year warranty
  18. lovely car mate- wouldnt change a thing! Maybe you should do more show and shines :-D
  19. yeah the foam thingies are just stuck on....
  20. If its ticking from startup fella, it'll be the tappets - nothing to worry about unless its ticking all the time- you could replace them as well though- i would :-) around 100 quid for the set from GSF/ eurocarparts
