vr6 turbo - what oil temps do you guys with turbos see
FishWick replied to 6potmkII's topic in Engine Tuning
No different with a turbo and yep I use a Mocal cooler. Before turbo with mocal = 96 - 98 deg at 80mph cruise. After turbo with mocal = 96-98 deg at 80mph cruise. Before mocal - 114 deg cruise at 80mph I use Silkolene Pro S 10W/50 oil. -
Vince did a Golf VR turbo map ages ago and it made 350hp @ 10.5psi. Quite impressive. A good alternative if the Standalone is a bit much for you.

I've heard nothing but good things about it mate. Quite keen to have a look at it when it's in :-)
-
LOL, I thought you'd already booked it in? Bit late for opinion scouting now? :-) The Emerald will do what you need it to, end of story :-)

Cheers for the info on the pump mate, sounds interesting! Is there a part number on it at all? The stock throttle body coolant hose has some kind of non return valve in it, is it possible Samco have done the same thing?

To do a stroker properly, you need shorter rods aswell to get the pistons back to their normal TDC position, unless of course, you want to go for a 11:1 compression ratio.... nice torque! As mentioned already, the torque will start falling past 5200 ish....unless you go fully balls out and fit a BV head, enlarge the bore, fit forged pistons etc etc Turbos or Supers are better though, bang for buck.

Anyone running a Schimmel short intake manifold N / A??
FishWick replied to dub16's topic in Engine Tuning
Small world! Personally speaking, the schrick is fine as a part throttle, mid range weapon for the road....but when running high revs all the while, it's actually a bit of a hinderence. I'd lose it personally! I have a big valve head too. 1mm oversize inconel valves, it's awesome. Got it from America as UK builders want uttery ridiculous money for a BV head. It will make a nice difference. Running titanium retainers and collets too? What capacity are you running? It's generally accepted in 12V circles that the head flows sufficient air for the 2.8 and 2.9 capacity, but when going up to 3 -
Anyone running a Schimmel short intake manifold N / A??
FishWick replied to dub16's topic in Engine Tuning
Wouldn't be Dave Manson with the Rallye VRT would it? :-) I have the Schimmel manifold on mine. I've run it naturally aspirated, with a supercharger and now a turbo. It's a great peice of kit. I didn't really feel a drop in bottom end response compared to the the standard manifold, but you will notice it compared to a schrick. I use a 1.8T air temp sensor in it as it's instant and accurate. The VR6 one is complete toss, it heat soaks and takes 10 seconds to register a change in temp. It's useless! But anyway, intake temps with a turbo and chargecooler are very low, 5-8 deg above atmosp -
The C2 Software doesn't work on UK OBD2. We are version 3.8. The US uses version 5.8. Standalone ECU is best as you have full control of the tune no matter what you put on the engine.

Interesting. Where did you get that pump from? I've also thought the stock pump is a bit pants. I've also thought about moving it away from it's current location so that it doesn't get so hot and fail so quickly, but it's getting round to these things!
-
£800 doesn't even buy you a new GT30R turbo let alone the rest of the stuff you need, so £800 for a whole kit is slightly dubious imo!! I'm also doubtful a 0.60 AR hot / 0.48 AR cold t3/t4 will hold 25psi to 7000rpm on a VR aswell.
-
It's not shite, but it won't work on your car. The software won't work obviously, so you'll have to get a map done in the UK, or go standalone. The manifold appears to be a copy of the ATP turbo one, which can work on RHD cars if you rotate the turbo so that the hotside is on the offside, but then you'll have to use an internal wastegate, which renders the supplied turbo and downpipe useless. It's tricky because the manifold you need is supplied by ibivr or transporter, but neither are on here very often unfortunately. Once you have the manifold, the rest is straight forward.

Evos are nothing against a VRT mate, not even the FQ360. They're not FQ at all imo.... been in my mate's and was underwhelmed, but then again, most things feel quite slow after a VRT!
-
Yep I've used it twice in 2 different engines and it's pretty good stuff. I'm not normally a believer in this kind of thing but it slows down the wear of the chain gear, which was my primary reason for using it.
-
Very impressive. It must be ballistic on the road. 20psi with a turbo gives a bit over 400whp normally, so you're on track to make similar numbers. That's what I like about the Rotrex, it gives you the low end punch Superchargers are normally noted for, unlike the Vortech which does nothing useful below 3500rpm.

Joules, Sorry mate, I'm not aware of any 'kits' as such for UK cars. The manifold is the heart of it though and the one sold by IBIVR is correct for RHD cars, so everything else except the front pipe is off the shelf. So you can pick and choose what you want. I don't think the pictures work in my DIY guide as I've changed ISPs! I need to sort that! I don't really want to recommend what I've done to mine as it cost a fortune! You can do it a lot cheaper with a journal bearing turbo and a front mount intercooler! I'm not surprised VF Engineering are going into Turbos, and kind of ironic gi

EIP - I read on the VW Vortex that they're going under and their after sales support was awful anyway, and some of their parts were questionable. The EIP turbo manifold for example, is a bit odd. It's a tubular thing with flanges to bolt onto the stock manifolds. I don't like that. The stock manifolds aren't designed to support the weight of a turbo or sustain the high exhaust gas temps you'll see on a turbo engine. A beefy replacement nickel/iron manifold is how to do it properly and it will last longer. A better solution would be the ATP manifold, but you have to use an internal wastegat

where can i get block rebored for 82mm pistons?
FishWick replied to 6potmkII's topic in Engine Tuning
Stealth reboring is £150 and each bore is piston specific, not 1 bore for all 6. You should never assume brand new pistons are all exactly the same size. Manufacturing tolerance has to be considered. -
Cadguy, cheers, that's the very manifold! Xyber, nice idea, but scoobies suffer big heatsoak in traffic with their IC right above the engine.
-
Yeah that looks good. The one I saw was built into the middle section where "DOHC VR6" would normally be, so it's above the engine rather than the exhaust, which is a bit cooler. I think allard motorsport made it.
-
Same as him /\, I'm using the Schimmel chargecooler, which is rated for up to 700whp. A bit overkill for a low boost supercharger tbh, but intakes are never any more than 10 deg above ambient all year round.

WHAT SPEED DOES YOUR VR DO ON THE REDLINE IN 3RD GEAR?

Any more luck Conky? The 1.8T sensor - Unfortunately that doesn't work on Motronic as it's too fast for it. A mate tested it last weekend and on VAG-COM it intermittantly throws up a fault. That's a shame as it works a treat on a standalone ECU. 60 deg IATs.....that's a smidge high, needs to be lower than 45 if possible to get the most out of the engine, but as you're only low boost it should be OK. VAG-COM's det retard is a little confusing, it's 12 'units' of retard, not degrees. I have no idea what that is in actual degrees!, but some folk reckon you lose about 10hp with every degree of r

WHAT SPEED DOES YOUR VR DO ON THE REDLINE IN 3RD GEAR?
FishWick replied to vr6newcomer's topic in Engine Tuning
3rd gear will pull 99mph at 7000rpm with a 17" tyre. 94 mph on a 15" tyre and 95 on a 16" tyre. The VR doesn't have a 7K rev limit though, so you're probably hitting 93 ish. The Lamborghini Diablo does that in 1st!
