I am working with Modern Classic Magazine with a cover feature, we are looking for some Golf VR6's / R32's, Golf R's (first generation).

The shoot will likely take place in the next 3 - 4 weeks around the Noth Cambs, Northampton / Rutland area.

Cars would be required all day 9AM - 17:30 and members from the magazine will need to drive the cars as well, they are fully insured and have PL Insurance upto £10 million pounds.

This is a great opportunity for anyone who falls within the criteria of the above and look urge anyone interested to reply to this post ASAP.

closer to factory standard the better please

    Cheers All !

    Hi all

long-time member making slow return to the OC.  I've had my 97 mk3 SORN'd for quite some time - with marriage, babies and career taking over - and it's sadly been neglected, especially with a lease as my daily.

    First job is cooling.

I'm looking to replace the expansion tank with a new, but they are nowhere to be found.  The current tank is stamped with 021121407?

    Any recommendations?

Vince did me a "safe map" before I went down there so I could at least drive it without worrying, it was still running quite rich mind as the plugs were sooted up quite badly but I had been driving it around for a few weeks before going for a map.

We had a 'guess gaz's horsepower game' at work before it went for mapping!! Lol

You will need to run it hard after, as they dont make 6psi till about 6000-6500rpm!!

Ok new cap fitted 310cc injectors and chip back in running much better this .code o2 sensor limit surpassed i had forgot i had this fault before fitting charger i presumed i cured it by buying a new bosch lamda.obviously hadnt and this is why im running rich even more so with bigger injectors etc.lambda plug on car loom has 4 wires the yellow that connects to pin 42 in ecu i think is the ground for sensor has corrosion on terminal.im thinking as the lambda detects a lean mixture the voltage would be low and if rich it would be high.as ive got a corroded terminal id have no voltage to sensor so in theory itd be thinking its weak and firing more fuel in. Job for 2moro replace corroded terminal and try it out.its running fine just now but still coming up with lambda control limit surpassed

I would highly recommend going to Vince at Stealth, but appreciate its some distance from you! There is a local B&B I have stayed in where work has gone over 2 days or to break it up a bit

I run 320CC injectors, 4bar pump and uprated fuel pump @ 9 PSI but of course all needs mapping in.

Thing is with the chip you have, looks to be "protected" so no other tuner can meddle with the map - throw it away and get it mapped for the hardware you have.

Keiron. Breaking third gear is nothing to do with the turbo per se. Its a result of a gearbox that is well known to be unable to reliably handle over 400ft lb. i'm told the 2wd gearbox from a 1st gen Seat Leon Cupra R is more robust. I run my car up to 1bar of boost which gives me about 370bhp and the same torque to avoid breaking the O2a. If I do kill it I might uprate, but so far, so reliable.

Keiron. I'm sorry buy I disagree. A GT30 is rated to 500bhp. I agree that you'll get diminishing returns towards the top end, but I still fail to understand why anyone really needs more than 400bhp in a front wheel drive car anyway. And also RonnyDi has also said that he wants 350-400bhp. I'm proof that a GT30 is perfectly adequate and anything bigger is unnecessary for this power requirement. I think that anyone who reckons they need more bhp simply hasn't been in a turbo'd VR6 with that much power.  On the road there really isn't much that troubles you. And the other point is ensuring the intercooling is sufficient. If it isn't right, it doesn't matter how big your turbo is, you'll produce excessive heat and a drop off in power against boost pressure.

Hi there I've had similar issues with my mk3 vr6 with mayo in the expansion tank . In my case it turned out to be the oil cooler which is at the front of the engine . Not an expensive part to replace just a bit fiddly. I did however have a coolant leak in the side of the head so I had to replace the head gasket which had perished . I did the job myself on the driveway and did the water pump at the same time. It's not as hard as you might think there's a lot of info about if that turns out to be your issue . That said the vr6 engine is so well designed that mine never overheated on me even when the coolant warning lamp comes on and I had to stop and replace the fluids
Let me know how you get on

its easy enough to do, only a few wires from ECU plug and then run them somewhere.

I cant remember the pin outs but remember one if the wires is grey, so its either probably been cut on the plug or futher down in the loom so can just splice it in and get an OBD2 plug and job done
