Snedboy 0
Was looking for some help and advice here.I'm planning on charging my MK2 VR next year and want to completely re-build the engine and box.The questions i ask are *Do you think it's worthwhile overboring the engine while its stripped down? It's a 2.9 at the moment and if so what pistons would be best to use?*What cams would be best suited to use with the charger attatched?*Whats the best ratios for my box? I want quick acceleration, aint bothered bout top speed to be honest.150 on the clocks good enough for me *Would it be worth getting the oversized valve head,or just get the head ported and polished?Other parts i'm wanting are lightened and balanced flywheel and crank.Where's the best place to get these bits? Also a quick shift.Whats the best on the market?Any info would be great and also any advice on bits and bobs i aint mentioned thats worth getting.Oh and i will be adding a complete ARP bolt kit aswell.Cheers in advance. I think the size is 83mm*What cams would be best suited to use with the charger attatched?Schrick 248s or DSR 256s*Whats the best ratios for my box? I want quick acceleration' date='aint bothered bout top speed to be honest.150 on the clocks good enough for me Not sure on ratios but a final drive of 3.64 or 3.68 will make it quick but lower the top speed unless you add a 6th ratio (vr6 5th).*Would it be worth getting the oversized valve head,or just get the head ported and polished?Oversize valve head is more effective mod than porting and polishing but is expensive.Other parts i'm wanting are lightened and balanced flywheel and crank.Where's the best place to get these bits?Fidanza do a lightened flywheel and turn 2 does a crank pulley but I think that company might have gone bankrupt. A US supplier would probably be your best bet. Also a quick shift.Whats the best on the market?B@M but I have heard criticism of this quickshift as its not as slick as the standard shifter. I think Neuspeed do one which might be better but really it should feel brilliant after the gearbox has been rebuilt.Any info would be great and also any advice on bits and bobs i aint mentioned thats worth getting.I'd also be adding an LSD and some uprated engine mounts.Oh and i will be adding a complete ARP bolt kit aswell.Cheers in advance.[/quote']

matth76 1
If you're going for big power i.e over 300bhp I would go for a metal head gasket with a slightly lowered compression ratio of 9:1 or even 8:5:1, just to keep things ultra reliable with the big power. I would go for one piece valves too in your head as these are apparently slightly more reliable. The standard bottom end internals can normally withstand big power if the compression is lowered. I would stick with OEM parts.
