Wrong, if it's strong enough spark to ignite the mixture, that's all it needs to do. It either ignites or it doesn't, there is nothing in-between. You will see no appreciable gains from a stronger spark

Lots of 'can' in those statements. If you're pre-igniting on stock hardware, you're doing something VERY wrong. 

 

If you want to waste money, then go right ahead. I recommend using 4 coils per cylinder and cleaning your plugs after every drive, wouldn't want to see carbon in an engine!
