A6 VRG Dragon Green MK3 'family car'

Recommended Posts

Over the years since I passed my driving test I've had approximately 50 VW's, with every engine going, except a VR6, despite always wanting one. The first proper project build I did was this:

Built from a bare shell in about 1999, with a 2.0 8v with loads of uprated bits. It made 167bhp, which was really quick in its day (probably used more fuel than a VR though!)

Since then I've had a few MK3's, loads of MK2's Corrados, a bullnose Passat, to name a few.

Anyway, fast forward a few years, and I now have a house, Mrs , and kids. About a year ago I got offered my dream job as a technician at PSi Tuning , and as I had a battered old Mondeo at the time, I needed a cheap dub . Along came this for £100!

On went some £30 second hand coilovers:

And then we found out my better half was pregnant, so zero suspension travel wasn't ideal! So I swapped it for a MK4.

Again, on went some coilovers (it's about 40mm lower than this now)

but I've never really liked the MK4, they're just too 'soft'. A mate of mine breaks VWs and I'd said I wanted another MK3, and he offered me a deal I couldn't refuse. Basically he had the Green VR6 with front damage, I could have it, raid his stock to fix it, MOT it, then he'd tax it and have my MK4! So I started with this:

null_zps23019ccc.jpg none of the panels in his stock were the right colour so I had to use blue for now, with the intention of having it painted later...

But then I found all the bits in the right colour, including a rear bumper to replace my scuffed one, for £30! Winner! So it now stands like this:-

So next step is VIC test next Saturday, tax it , and finally drive it!

nice thread mate :) A lot of love for VW! :D

Good luck with the VIC test :) (whats actually involved with those?)

When I previously vic'd a car of mine it was purely to check the vehicle I.d was all present and correct. Mine was a cat c write off, it was a punto jtd elx. I believe there is a certain member of our club with a soft spot for these high power Italian machines!

Haha! I didn't buy one of these through choice but it has been known ive turned up to a few shows in my beast.

The only good thing about my punto is that it makes getting into my Corrado that much better

Soooooo, last Saturday two important things happened with the VR. Firstly, having never driven the car, it's first journey was a 120 mile round trip to Vosa for the VIC Check. It performed perfectly, you'd never know it hadn't been driven since it was written off in March. Anyway, it passed!

On the way this happened:

Then things went a bit Pete Tong.... On the drive back I kept getting shooting pains in my stomach. I thought nothing of it and went to work. It got worse throughout the day, so I went home and had some painkillers. On the Sunday morning I collapsed at home and was taken to hospital by ambulance.

After a 4 day stay, 3 different types of scan, loads of different doctors poking around etc, they've found a hernia, but aren't sure that's the cause of the pains, so although I'm home now, I'm still on about 3 different kinds of painkiller, and have to go back in again on Monday for more tests. So although the VR is now on the road....

I can't drive it :-( and I'm in too much pain to even clean it. Doh! Hopefully this week they'll get to the bottom of it. Then I can give the car a good clean for some decent pictures, and finally start using it!

On a bit of a different subject, this was my last job before I had to go off work sick:

Pop quiz: name the car and which engine it has.....

Not been on here for a while. Been having a few dramas at home. Anyway, as a result it's looking like I may have to part with the VR.

I really REALLY don't want to. But I've had the plate valued at £600 by about half a dozen specialists. So i f anyone on here wants the plate, it's for sale for £500, or if someone wants the car with the plate, first decent offer takes it.....

I'm absolutely gutted to be honest but needs must. I'm doing everything I can to avoid selling up but if I have to Id rather it went to someone on here so I know it's gone to a good home
