DanChave's MK3 Golf GTI 16V Turned VR6 OBD1 :)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I had a Chilli Red VR6 OBD2 more door about 7-8 years ago, and I missed it from the day I sold it! I always knew I'd own a VR again, it was just a matter of when :)

First a quick run down of some of the cars I have had in picture format!

The VR

I sold this to an ex and always planned on buying it back, sadly a spark in the battery ignited an engine bay fire which resulted in this :(

Then I had a Klassic Red more door with a gutless 1.8 8v engine, but I did a lot to it and took it as far it could go while still being a daily, including Porsche Cups, Vento front, colour coded bumpers and trim, leather interior and subtle bodywork smoothing etc.

Next step was a VR6 conversion, but then I found a mint example of a Flash Red three door GTI 16V, and this is where things start getting complicated lol

Which I did quite a fair bit to, particularly the engine bay :)

Anyways, the next update I'll get to the VR6 conversion, which is nearly complete :)

So, I picked these up at the SWDubs Mega Meet   Also I fitted my MK3.5 clocks, and got the fuel light working. Handy for a VR lol   I also found enough time to split down the BBS RX2's I picked up

Got the GTI in:     Engine and loom out and completely stripped:   Cleaned up!   Started refitting everything   Refurbed front subframe, wishbones and rear beam with polybushes, new bearings, tr

Soo, the reason behind the VR conversion is because I want the 16v for my MK3 Cabby that I am building to represent my company at shows! The Cab will be built around a set of 16x8 and 16x9 staggered splits on Air with a smooth bay and the 16v on twin Weber 45's :)

Looks nice, I do love a red one! Reckon I'd get all the arches and skirts back on it though , I think they're quite retro and cool now!

Cheers bud! Not bias at all maybe? ;) That's the plan, I want it nice and original GTI looking with VR under the bonnet and VR6 chrome badges :)
