964russ 0 Posted March 28, 2013 Report Share Posted March 28, 2013 Iam running 17" bmw m3 rims with a 20mm adaptor, car is low very low.Ive had issues with them catching with 205 40s so thought id try a little stretch.Bought a pair of 185 35 s, fitted on a 7.5" rim there very stretchy.Probably too much.Now they dont rub, but look a bit mad. Elastic band, with the rim edge visible.Is this legal?Safe?Any one else run stretched tyres?May have to get sum 195 40s. Link to post Share on other sites
VR6Pete 1,455 Posted March 28, 2013 Report Share Posted March 28, 2013 I know that the police were clamping down on this type of "tyre" stretch as it is potentially unsafe, risk of curbing is also increased and it destroys the handing if your driving it every day. I tried stretched tyres and quickly got bored of the poor handling despite it looking the dogs. I know there are a lot of MOT changes that came into effect on the 20th March, so worth checking.... VIW28 29 Posted March 28, 2013 Report Share Posted March 28, 2013 I run a 195/40 17 on my 8x17" Porsche wheels and handling is not affected whatsoever but I have uprated suspension components throughout the car however. I also run the car pretty low and it handles really good. 185/35 tyre is too rash, has no give in it at all, stick to a 195/40. Link to post Share on other sites
