psilosimon 8 Posted October 8, 2011 Report Share Posted October 8, 2011 I was gonna replace my coolant today as I have no idea when it was last done. I am reading from a mk3 gti haynes manual, but I'm not sure which hoses to disconnect as they look slightly different. I want to flush both the rad ant the engine. v6horse 1 Posted October 8, 2011 Report Share Posted October 8, 2011 When i did it i just disconected the bottom rad hose to drain the system . dont get everything out but most of it . you can also remove one of the sensors from the thermo housing aswell to drain anything thats left there . Then disconnect the Thermostat - replace cover and flush through to clear engine. Whereabouts is the Thermostat? Link to post Share on other sites
Lukey. 381 Posted October 11, 2011 Report Share Posted October 11, 2011 i personally wouldnt bother cos youre introducing a lot of chances to create leaks in the t-stat housing and water distribution system and replacing all that is a front off job and about £200 worth of bits.Ive had good success with holts speedflush, which you empty into the coolant system before the job, Run the car for about 40 miles or 48 hours getting up to temp to circulate the whole system, then empty and flush with straight water, circulate that when up to temp for 5 miles or so then empty and fill with fresh coolant, removed a lot of sh!t from my system Link to post Share on other sites
