VeedubVR 0
The VR is coming off the road after westside and hopefully into the unit where we can make a start on the bay. Nothing OTT just a general clean up.So in the mean time I want to start collecting parts to go turbo.after thinking about I for a while and talking to a few people I want to see a comfortable 350bhp. They said standard VR internals are good for 450bhp....? A few people have recommended the t3/t4 hybrid and others have said go TD05. I dont know alot about turbos tbh so I need you guys (and gals) to teach me Thanks in advance
FishWick 21
Teach you? Sure. What do college lecturers charge by the hour and pay me the same ;-)GT35R. That is all :-)
VeedubVR 0
anyone? I know there are a few guys on here running VRTS!
legvw 0
Yea you can keep standard internals, but fit a metal layer gasket and space plate to lower compression. Turbo choice is mainly down to you and the power/delivery you want. Gt35 is best suited to a vr, but go smaller an you'll have quicker spool but lower top end boost as it will choke. *P3nfold* 0
I got to say VeedubVR, Paul and Kev know there sh*t.
VeedubVR 0
Do internals need changing with a GT35r? I haven't really looked into them. Its going to be a while yet till it starts getting built but I want to get a start on parts soon as. So the more info I get the better reallyThanks
dman78 1
read kevs, pauls or jim potters turbo build threads, thats how i did mine, between those three you'll have every inch covered
UnitedMotorsport 55
A GT35R did this to a standard rod...Stock rods will take up to ~500lbft of torque before they start to bend, the one in the picture is from an engine that made in excess of ~550lbft.My advice to you on turbo choice is if you use a T3 turbine housing(T3/T4), use either a 0.82 or 1.06 AR turbine housing. My personal preference is the 1.06.The GT35R (with a 0.82 or 1.06 turbine housing) is pretty well matched to the 12v, its a good compromise between spool and top end choke. FishWick 21
/\ completely agree with all of that, especially the 1.06 with cams and short runner. You get a very elastic powerband like a BMW M engine.Torque too early on a VR usually = busted gearbox and / or frequent visits to the tyre fitters.
