bleeding the clutch :)

Recommended Posts

I think I need to bleed the clutch on my B4 passat VR wagon as it's got about 10-15mm bite from the floor and when cold won't go in gear at all until the clutch is pumped a few times to get it started.

Anyone got some pics of where the master and slave cylinders are and pointers on doing it? Looked for a guide on here but took ages and not found anything.

Any help would be great, doing more mileage now so need the car for work, might as well make the most of it before I have to change it for a Dredded Diesel :(

Cheers

Tom

the master cylinder is right on top of the gearbox, you will see the hydraulic line and the cylinder poking out of the bell housing. where the slave cylinder is for the brake servo, you will see a bit of flexi pipe coming out and going to the slave cylinder for the clutch to the bottom right. the clutch and brake share the same resevoir :) on the master cylinder for the clutch there is a nipple right next to the hydraulic line. just bleed it as you would the brakes. someone in a bit more in the know on bleeding systems will advise more :) hope that helps, dave

That's a good start mate I appreciate it, not had the car that long so every job I do on the car is new to me, I've always been more of a mk2 golf and T4 van guy before and they had those old fashioned cable things :).

No worries mate, if you are comfortable in using bleeders and bleeding brakes then it shouldn't be too much of a faff :)

If you used cables in the past, then bindaband will do then ;)
