Caddyslammed 16
My car is currently in a professional bodyshop, i had the idea that maybe tomorrow i'll nip in and mention maybe painting my wheels, (my mate owns the bodyshop). Now i know that it seems powder coating is tough, but for many reasons it is attractive for me to get them painted, also it means i could get the slight kerbing removed by them easily, 2pack is tough paint isnt it?.If i get them painted there the colour will be completely spot on, and so on, so can anyone tell me if this is a bad idea, and that i really should get them powder coated, which appears to be very expensive, especially as VW candy white needs to be sourced/made, and if they refurb the wheels as in kerbing, very pricey..I messaged the old owner of my car and he said he got the front 8" painted candy white, (2pack), and they really do look good....thoughts please, thanks
dubbed_up_daz 8
for white on white id go with getting them wet painted at the bodyshop, your guaranteed a perfect match like you say
VR6Nat 9
For a perfect match painting will prob be easier, ESP as you know someone in the trade. Any other situation I would say powder coating as it is stronger and cheaper. But if they need refurbing then it won't work out cheaper for you. Stick with paint.
VeedubVR 0
Powder coating- cheaper- stronger- but not much colour choicepainting- choose any colour you want- not as orange peely, imo a better finish- but more expensive and not as strong as powder coatchris peacock had his rocco, wheels and brakes all white but different shades and it was barely noticeable
Caddyslammed 16
Thanks all for the comments.A local powder coaters here have quoted me £40+vat per wheel, to blast them then powder coat them in a white similar to candy white, now £200 isn't bad, but they will not be made good, i.e. slight kerbing wont be sorted, and they will not be VW candy white, so i suppose i'll get a quote tomorrow from my mate at the bodyshop and decide from there. The 9's on the back at the moment are a different shade of white to the car and the fronts and it is noticable, well i'm not happy with it . DazzaVR6 2
My cousin works in a bodyshop and they charge 45 a wheel to refurb them and paint them so if its your mate that owns it im guessing he will do them cheaper so i would go the paint route.
spadam 7
Powdercoating down south is £20 a wheel for 17inch. So £40 seems way to much.
VR6Nat 9
Yeah my mate had a full set powdercoated for £100 down here in White n they are awesome. But you have to make them straight first. They don't do the refurb.
