Worrying L reg MK3 GOLF engine Knock, Any Help appreciated,

Hi, Ive owned my VR6 for 4 months now, had no problems untill the last week or two. In the mornings when i fire her up, theres been a slight knock for several seconds and then it dissapears.... untill this morning, now the noise is staying constant. it doesnt sound like a heavy bearing knock, im hopeing its just the tappets. The noise is sounding louder from the left hand side of the bay (If your sitting in the car). The Last thing i need is it to be the BIG END as ive only just scrapped my previouse due to that dissgusting noise. Any help is appreciated, Thanks very much. :^)

It could be the timing chains a they are on the passenger side of the car, it could be a tensioner or pulley thy has come loose? Just a suggestion as if that goes then it's gonna cost £££

Thanks for that, is a tensioner difficult to replace? i should take it for a 2nd oppinion.... i realy dont fancy splashing out alot, so im still hopeing (praying) its something simple... im gonna do an oil change today, see if that helps, any more suggestions would be appreciated. cheers mate.
