Grey sludge and copper particles in my overflow Tank!!

Recommended Posts

Following my gravelly noise thread on my highline, things seem to be getting worse!

Overflow tank has grey sludge for water, where oil appears to be mixing in and more worrying a copper particle sludge which resembles coppa slip?!

Strange thing is it isn't overheating or running over normal temperature and oil filler cap is completely free of mayonaise?..it did have a bit when I bought the car but a bottle of kseal cured it.

Otherwise car runs fine apart from noisy lifters when cold and gravely chain noise!

...told it could be mixture of oil cooler problem and head gasket breaking up?

Cam anyone help?, getting a bit cheesed off with all these problems!

Cheers ... By the way Gti International was a great day!

well basically any particles are bad - usually.

That said you have just done a load of work on it so there is the chance of this being leftover from that..

My immediate suggestion is to flush the water system and see if anything comes back after.

I would keep the sludge and let it dry out. Then you can tell if it is metal/plastice etc etc

Just for clarity there is no other noises and the water pump is all okay??
