Ive finally got half an hour so putting my build thread up!!!

Here we go........

Ive had my 1997 Black Magic Pearl VR6 for just over a month now...

Paid a few hundred quid for her, total rust bucket with 150k on the clock!!!

NOT FOR LONG!!!!

First things first

new s3 wheels

whilst collecting the wheels, i fell in love with his mk4 fronted mk3 vr6

i immediately sourced a 3.5 cab and had the front end off of it, 48 hours after my visit for the wheels, i had purchased the front & fitted it, lol

If any1 is thinking of doing this conversion, then do it!!!

it really is simplee

my conversion took an initial 6 hour day, to get it all removed, prepped & fitted up!!!

here are some pics

9am

leesiphone1188.jpg

all the crappy mk3 front off, in the bin where it belongs!!!

10am

12pm

leesiphone1179.jpg

old wing off, time to give everything a bit of a clean

leesiphone1180.jpg

new wing initially bolted on, to get the jist of how it was going to look! lol

next is the tricky bit!!

if any1 doesnt know about the conversion... the mk3.5 cabriolet shares the same wings as the mk3 car apart from the lower section of the front quarter..

this means you have to cut the section from the existing wings! then weld it onto your new 3.5 wings

it only took me an hour or so to do, but its awesome, i was really chuffed

1pm

new lower section welded into place, wing just needs a bit of adjustment now!!!

im so chuffed with my FIRST EVER attempt at anything CAR

3pm

leesiphone1185.jpg

new front end literally just bolted on, so i could get car back in the garage

4pm

leesiphone1189.jpg

some adjusting done

AND SHE IS NOW A MK3.5, WELL AS FAR AS IM CONCERNED ANYWAY, LOL

the following day, i just had to align everything properly, fit the bonnet catch & get the wiring looked at!!!

LOVE IT

Next on the list, i decided to tackle the rust...

Stupid i know, especially as I have the car booked in for a Full Respray nextr week & the price includes ALL rust removal & new rear quarters etc!!

but, as im having a love afair with my car, i thought i would do something my self just to see if im actually capable!!

here she is, as she stands!!!

leesiphone1273.jpg

rear wiper arm & motor removed, and the lump in the boot removed with an angle grinder ready for a new plate to be welded and smoothed!!

badge removed ready for plate & smoothing!!!

loving it like this, proper mean looking with all the filler & primer

  • 1 month later...

i would def recommend the 3.5 option...

it took a day to do it, and i have no skills whatsoever with cars, that was my first attempt ever!!!!!

a bit different from the norm 2, give it a go

I worked out that its cost around £100 to do it, once all my old bits sold on variour forums etc
