leehill139 0 Posted March 18, 2010 Report Share Posted March 18, 2010 Ive finally got half an hour so putting my build thread up!!!Here we go........Ive had my 1997 Black Magic Pearl VR6 for just over a month now...Paid a few hundred quid for her, total rust bucket with 150k on the clock!!!NOT FOR LONG!!!!First things firstnew s3 wheelswhilst collecting the wheels, i fell in love with his mk4 fronted mk3 vr6i immediately sourced a 3.5 cab and had the front end off of it, 48 hours after my visit for the wheels, i had purchased the front & fitted it, lolIf any1 is thinking of doing this conversion, then do it!!!it really is simpleemy conversion took an initial 6 hour day, to get it all removed, prepped & fitted up!!!here are some pics9amall the crappy mk3 front off, in the bin where it belongs!!!10am12pmold wing off, time to give everything a bit of a cleannew wing initially bolted on, to get the jist of how it was going to look! lolnext is the tricky bit!!if any1 doesnt know about the conversion... the mk3.5 cabriolet shares the same wings as the mk3 car apart from the lower section of the front quarter..this means you have to cut the section from the existing wings! then weld it onto your new 3.5 wingsit only took me an hour or so to do, but its awesome, i was really chuffed1pmnew lower section welded into place, wing just needs a bit of adjustment now!!!im so chuffed with my FIRST EVER attempt at anything CAR3pmnew front end literally just bolted on, so i could get car back in the garage4pmsome adjusting doneAND SHE IS NOW A MK3.5, WELL AS FAR AS IM CONCERNED ANYWAY, LOLthe following day, i just had to align everything properly, fit the bonnet catch & get the wiring looked at!!!LOVE IT Link to post Share on other sites
leehill139 0 Posted March 18, 2010 Author Report Share Posted March 18, 2010 DAH DAHfirst time i saw it in daylight as a mk3.5Next on the list, i decided to tackle the rust...Stupid i know, especially as I have the car booked in for a Full Respray nextr week & the price includes ALL rust removal & new rear quarters etc!!but, as im having a love afair with my car, i thought i would do something my self just to see if im actually capable!!here she is, as she stands!!!rear wiper arm & motor removed, and the lump in the boot removed with an angle grinder ready for a new plate to be welded and smoothed!!badge removed ready for plate & smoothing!!!loving it like this, proper mean looking with all the filler & primerthats it for now guysi have just purchased my coiloversi have just got a BRAND NEW set of genuine vr6 seat covers, stolen from vw 12 years ago by a mechanic, loljust purchased a dtm cup wing mirror for the drivers side & and a blanker for the passenger side!!im afraid, the next pics will be in a few weeks when she is home from the bodyshopALL comments welcome guys Link to post Share on other sites
