Ben Seabrook 4
With the nice sunshine we had the other day I decided to open my sunroof, it only goes halfway back and then when you press the close button it slides back but then goes up and finishes half open ! is this the motor gone or is there a way to reset the close position ? Cheers peeps

VR6Nat 9
im guessing its got something to do with electrics.... wires n that... :) lol
Ben Seabrook 4
ha ha thanks !!! I might just change the motor over and see what happens but that means I have to take the headlining out :( is there no way to change or reset the stop position ??
VR6Nat 9
No seriously have you tried removing the switch and cleaning it?What happens when you leave it open and try shutting it using the key?? does it work ok then?? if so its def the switch.
Ben Seabrook 4
nope, when you press the close switch on the panel it closes then opens and stops about an inch up, if the car is closed and you press the alarm button it again rises up about an inch so you have to pull it back by that much and then press the alarm button so when it moves it then ends up in the correct closed position !! VR6Nat 9
ahhh... then its not the switch... what a bugger.... might be the motor then, what about the sunroof general, have you given it all a good clean?? unplugging any plgs and replugging it... all worth a go before ripping the motor out... a good smack often helps to shake things into action too
Ben Seabrook 4
yeah cant see anything obvious but will have another look later if not taking a hammer to it is very tempting !!
VR6Pete 1,455
its an easy job removing the motor - did you have one in your old VR, ben?Pete
Ben Seabrook 4
yes mate that's what I am thinking about doing just swopping them over to see if that works
legvw 0
Could the motor have jumped a few cogs, don't really know how they work but if you can take the motor out, use the switch to open it until the motor stops, thenuse the switch to put the motor back in the shut position, then bolt the motor on it should be back to normal? (if that makes any sense!!!)
Ben Seabrook 4
mmm well have take the old whole control unit and motor from the old one so will have a look mate - I hope it's that as that makes sense and am sure I could do that
