There having a laugh - dealer servicing

Recommended Posts

Havin my 80k service done at the local dealership. Just got a call about some things that need doing on the car. I nearly had a heart attack at the prices they charge.

Rear discs / pads and bearings = £312.

Ball joint & wheel alignment = £280.

I know that i can get the rear discs done for about £100 all in as my mates a mechanic. Anyone know how much of a ball acher the ball joint is to change?

Dubloke - I do like to have a go at fixing things myself - i just dont trust myself with life/death parts like brakes!

But drama over - got all the parts for around £90 - just standard discs etc. Mates fitting them tommorow for £50 ish.

Also - VW tried to over charge me £50 for the service - they said that it had 6 spark plugs instead of 4 - i asked if the plugs were gold plated at £25 a throw! Then they came out with "the sparks are special", then (this is the best) - "is your VR6 a diesel?" OMG these are main dealers!! Didnt pay the extra fifty in the end - small victory s'pose.

I phoned to book a service for mine yesterday and I always like to use a Dealership (Hayseldens) if I can. I asked how much a service would be and they quoted my £250! I said that it was too much and they told me that the 40, 000 mile service is the most important. I said it wasn't that important.

Anyway, I've booked in with a small local Vw Specialist who seem to know what they're doing and told me that they use all the same stuff that they do at Hayseldens and advertise as an official URO supplier, for £130. That's better.
