Cutting out / jolting (vento VR6 obd1)

Recommended Posts

I had a mechanic friend of mine look at the VR6 yesterday and he said what its doing is called hunting, its where the power dissapears and then the car jolts. it does it in 1st 2nd and 3rd gears. and on tick over it either sticks on 500 revs or the rev will go up and down as if i'm revving the car. im off to town today to get some carb cleaner. i've been told to clean out the air flow sensor, idle control valve and ive got to change a pipe on the fuel actuator valve coz it has a sillicone pipe on and apparently that is very very dangerous coz it can swell and cause a engine fire. I'm also gonna check the plugs and leads.

If anyone has any other ideas please let me know

Cheers

Ok quick update, i got the git of a plug out and all new plugs are in place, i'm buying new leads tomorrow so that bit is done.

i took the MAF out and cleaned it today and the tube running up to the throttle body was cleaned also.

I noticed that the throttle body flappy plate ( sorry i dont know the technical term lol) is a bit dirty, can i clean this while it is still attached to the engine or do i have to remove it, i'm a bit concerned coz i've heard that the ecu needs resetting if i mess about with it.

any idea's guys

cheers

John
