well' date=' firstly how do you know it deffo is the motor? i'd connect a bit of wire off the battery and see if you can get the window to move first.[/quote']

Because this will be the third time I've take the damn thing apart to attept to repair it. I've bodged it twice but I think it's finally had it... I managed to bodge it again tonight but it's making some very un-happy noises...

I can't beleive I'm going to have to give in and fork out £100+ for a new one as there aren't any 2nd's anywhere...

Just wish I still worked for VW as it would have saved me about 40%!!! x)

Mate, I have just cured my window problem. It didn't work when I got the car and I changed the mech to a brand new one back in the summer but not the motor. It worked all over the summer but I noticed the motor was getting hot.

A few weeks ago it stopped working all together. So I bought a second hand motor and replaced that.

Thing was I took the motor casing off to try and fit the motor quick - needless to say a bodge too far and I had a job getting the spindle for the motor back in the case as the magnets are very strong. Did that got it all back together (after having the whole lot out numerous times, screwed everything up and I'd got the fooking polarity round the wrong way (put the casing on the wrong way round!) Christ did I sware!!!

Anyway after nearly un-ravelling the bloody cable and the motor problem, It all works fine now!!!

I'd suggest you change the whole lot mate, only problem is finding a second hand motor is like rocking horse shit! I asked Find a part and I only got two phone calls from all over the whole of the UK!!!

Steve, on the housing of the motor are two magnets + and -, now i'm no geek but when you reverse the polarity of any electric motor, say put the negative on the positive and positive on the negative the motor runs backwards. Therefore if you simply leave the current as it should be but swap around the magnets it'll run backwards! God it pissed me off too. I HATE ELECTRIC WINDOW MECHANISMS!!!!
