VR6Andy 0
Come on then, someone can help me win a tenner, and no i won't be splitting it before you ask.My friend has informed me!!! that the highline has more power than the standard Vr. I have disputed this but he is going to stand on until I have evidence. Send us the stats in a web site. PS that tenners mine, I'll burn it in the Vr.
binliner 0
well yes and no... later VRs (96-98) had the OBD2 ecu which usually produces more power (about 10bhp) than earlier (OBD1) cars... so yes they do but it isnt just highlines its all later VRs[ Edited Sat Feb 14 2004, 12:13AM ]
VR6Andy 0
I have a 96 Vr so how do fine out which ECU I have, this is just out of interest and nothing to do with the bet as he has not mentioned years just the spec.
binliner 0
if its a 96 it should be obd2... look at the throttle body and if theres a big black plastic end piece on the left then its OBD2 (sorry cant describe it very well) I'll try and find a picon the subject of your bet... VW figures are 174bhp for all mk3 golf VR6s so if you get a highline brochure that should win you the bet
binliner 0
here ya go... if yours has the black plastic bit facing the camera on the side of the throttle body then its obd2[ dscf0082.jpg ]
acf8181 0
well yes and no... later VRs (96-98) had the OBD2 ecu which usually produces more power (about 10bhp) than earlier (OBD1) cars... so yes they do but it isnt just highlines its all later VRs[ Edited Sat Feb 14 2004' date= 12:13AM ]....but...most of the late cars have this slight power advantage neutralised by the addition of air-con. binliner 0
only if you use it was thinking you're mate is wrong really Andy... A highline has no more power then any other VR of the same age
acf8181 0
it's all negligable really....every single car has a slightly different power output, i'd bet that there's some early (obd1) vr's that have more power than some highlines out there.
binliner 0
probably true... but even if it isnt they seem to improve with age in a lot of cases anyway
VR6Andy 0
Double wahammy, Mine has the obd 2 carb and i win a tenner, he better pay up the Focus driving softhead.Ps binliner that engine bay is toooooooooooo shiny.
VR6Steve 0
On the subject of aircon, it weighs about 60kg, so I guess it does compensate for the power gain!

VR6Andy 0
AIR CON whats that a sunroof??, 60 kgs glad i went without.
Glyn Mk3 0
air con is pretty pointless in this country, most of the time. But if we have another summer like last years, I'll be making much use of my air con 8o)
acf8181 0
at the end of the day, if we were that worried about weight, and thus perfromance, we'd all be driving caterhams everywhere!i'd rather have aircon...its only a few bhp, or a tenth of a sec on the 0-60. vdubgirl 3
My highline is a 97 on a P and it pulled 140 at the wheels at TSR a month ago so I 'm not sure how much that is at the fly but they said is was standard power and there was no probs with it
stimpy 0
Hi,My 1993 obd1 pulled 152 at the wheels on the same day as my mates highline did 148 on TSR dyno. I've never heard of the later cars supposed to have 193bhp either. Can't see why leather heated seats or colour coded bumpers would give you more power. Another friend has a 97 non highline that pulled max power of 186.8(flywwh) on the AMD dyno with a shrick VGI and miltek cat back. All dynos vary but I'm pretty sure the base line figures are the same for all 2.8VR6 motors. cool website.
Macca 1
There's only one way to settle this: get a load of highlines and non-highlines and thrash them out on the same rolling road....... I'll see you Sunday 8o)
sciroccorrado 0
My standard Vento VR6 (K-Reg) pulled up 187bhp at Stealth three months ago. It's done 138k miles and is sub-standard as the exhaust is just plain crap!
