gazbrook 0
I pick my car up (for the 2nd time) from the engine rebuild on tuesday from awesome gti. I might have asked part of this last time tho. How many miles should i do before i can give it some on the rolling road(it's getting tuned on friday :-( )??? I was going to just go up and down the M1 and get some mileage on it, i have been told it wouldn't be good for it to just stick to approx 4k revs all the time on the motorway and instead vary my revs from idle upto 4k quite often. Is this true?? I'm scared my engine is going to die again after a few hundred miles if i get it wrong.
VR6Steve 0
I would say do about 1000 miles before thrashing it on a rolling road. I'd also suggest changing the oil at 500 and the 1000 mile mark.
acf8181 0
what you need to do is keep to a rev limit (say 4k)but rather than constant revs you need to use all the revs, so back road driving would actually be better than motorway driving. as said above i'd do oil change at 500, then 1k. then you need to progressively increase your own pre-determined rev limit by 500 rpms at a time towards the end of the bedding in period until you're at max rpm's. VRmonster 1
im dreading getting my engine rebuilt, mainly because when i have my brakes done, i always seem to stamp on them after about 10 mins. hence me not being patient enough to run an engine in, lol. so ill probably blow the fucker up. lol. i may as my mam to drive the backroads for a few hours a day just to break it in, but when i have it rebuilt it will already be turbo'd so it gonna be even harder. guess ill have to drop it to 0psi, lol. ie, leave the wastegate open all the time. gazbrook 0
Every time i'm going out i'm gonna take my bird out with me.She will watch the rev counter like a hawk and give me a bollocking everytime i try racing somebody, still, 1000 miles without putting my foot down is pretty hard work!!
