more mk1-ness..

finally got the tailgate sorted out, managed to get a very nearly rust free one which needed painting so ages ago i stripped it and primered it ..

then i took it to my mates paint and body shop and we took it almost back to bare metal all over

primed and painted it then wet flatted it off

laquered it and after drying (duh!!) off with the old and on with the new.. :-d

sticker was a pain to say the least, plenty of heating and stretching to get it right

i took it to the mk1 golf meet this summer, so put it back to totally standard for a while, so out came the std lights and indicators and also a new (reprinted) set of original 1983 dealer plates...

looks like a brand new car ? *-)

but soon it will be looow on these.. ;)

omg ive never seen this thread before' date=',the best car ive seen on here so far-by far:),and i like it with the standard wheels on it,,but as your puttin the bbs on it i reckon just chrome would look subtle and neat,top work top car love it

i'm not sure about the best car on here!! but thanks :-d i'm pretty sure they will be graphine grey though, like the vr ones.. matching and all that!

so i finally had the money for the coilovers and the box of bits i have collected over the last few months was also full, so easter weekend mission time.. :D

new :- coilovers, top mounts, ball joints, arb bushes, wishbone bushes, discs, pads, and all nuts bolts washers etc needed.

cleaned and painted :- inner arches, wishbones, arb, calipers and carriers, disc back plate, rear drums.

so out came the gazebo, as it was raining...

that little lt took me saturday afternoon, sunday all day and some of monday.... also put back on the clear front indicators and south africa factory tinted rear lamps, and new plates with borders and slightly smaller letters (which i like..).

then it was time for the new wheelies.. :D

then i took it into work to get the tracking and camber set up as i had had it all in bits, shock+horror, it was MILES OUT.. :lol:

then came time for mot and tax on saturday afternoon so she is all legal again for another year.. then of couse i just had to go for a long cruise and the difference in handling is amazing!! feels so tight and the cornering is sooo much better, great fun!!

so i was hoping and hoping for a dry weekend so i could take it upto santa pod for the gti spring fest, and it was!! :D so some of you have seen it already, but here are 2 from up there anyway.
