binliner 0
Ive had a minor coolant leak for a while but it seems to be getting a bit worse so time to sort it out..... apparantly its leaking from the thermostat housing and a new one is needed.Im waiting for the garage to get back to me with a price but just wondered if it was something I could do myself... anyone know how hard it is to do? binliner 0
update: they reckon around £70+vat fitted. The part costs £20... anyone changed this before?
jcorallo 0
yep. You'll need to replace the coolant lost - which is £15 from Halfords.I allways use a dab of that orange silicon sealant - £2Best put a new Thermostat and seal in there - £7.Note: You might not need a new housing - it could just be the seal behind it... £20 you say? New?Jules
binliner 0
yeah they said about £20 plus £40-£50 labour... didnt mention the other bits so they'll probably go on the bill as well!
zerocool 0
its only held on by 3 Allan bolts and two hoses attach to it.its probably only the seal thats gone, but if you can afford it I would change the lot,get new allan bolts for it too.it took me about 30 mins to change one,the only awkward bit is getting the coolant pipes off,as the clamps require a special tool really, to compress them, but it can be done with a good pair of pliers. topgunvr6 0
I got my nextdoor neighbour to do it. It took us 1hr to do it max. as long as you drain all the coolant and disconnect the pipes joining the housing then its easy to do. darren
