Removing the top of the engine.

Recommended Posts

Sounds like i have a problem with Cyl 1 or 6. AA said it sounded like a broken valve spring. My question - if i take the top of the engine off to have a look, does it just pop back on using the same bolts etc? (can you tell i'm not a mechanic?)

Cars currently about 10 miles from home, its got a cracked headlight as well so its got condensation in there - looks like its crying, as am I.

hi. in order to get to a broken valve spring you will need to take the cylinder head off, to do this you need to disconnect the intake, exhaust, ignition, fuel etc, this is not a five minute job, not to mention taking the timing chain off and replacing the cam sprockets in the right place. Head bolts, I believe are stretch type bolts so would need replacing, to be honest if you haven't done engine work before I would not advise it as an introduction. My advice would be to find a vw specialist (not a main dealer unless you fancy main dealer prices) and get them to take a look. good luck...
