you can get a Jetex stainless system for around £250 direct from them' date=' and you can pick up a abs sensor for about £30 from GSF or Euro car parts, so when you add the labour that price dont sound too bad really, if it gets the car through another years mot and you can afford it? then get it done

When I broke down the price its does seem right.

£128 for both centre and rear boxes

£68.33 for sensor

£50 for original MOT test

Labour costs and VAT its not that bad

I put the cost down to the fact I own an 11 year old VW. Things like this will happen!!!!

Don't forget you have to justify your own time as a cost too, if you spend all day sunday under your car fixing it how much you do quanitfy that as? As much as I like doing the work myself to my car some times its not always practical from an expenses point of view. i.e I can pay some one to fix my car while I go to work and earn double the labour costs. or fix it myself an lose a days wage

Why do you need a new centre box when they say only the bracket has broken? Can't a new bracket just be put on. From what it sounds like you need a new rear box as you mention that is blowing. A new bracket for the centre box (not the box itself) and an abs sensor. Not sure but I think £436 seems way over the top. Might be far cheaper to get it all done and retested at another garage. Rear box shouldn't be much nor should the bracket and sensor. Then the £50 and labour cost is all you should pay - not sure where this £436 is coming from! Some MOT garages do try and rip you off. A mate had this done to him. His car was failed and they quoted him a huge bill to fix right and he took it to another garage for retest and saved a couple of hundred quid. I would do that if I were you. Good luck mate.
