I love the VR and the mk3 in general but if you're talking about unmodified hot hatches it wont exactly go down in history as one of the greats will it They are great value at the moment but that one does look a bit of a shed to be fair Link to post Share on other sites
purple highline monster 0 Posted February 19, 2007 Report Share Posted February 19, 2007 none last longer than any other! depends on the individual car mate, later engines did have "improved" set up but that dont mean it wont bust if abused mileage means nothing either really as if something fails it fails!, people always mention the water pump, head gaskets and chains when you say VR6, in the 3 years i worked for VW i never once ordered a head gasket or chains for a vr! water pumps yeah but thats a "service" part anyway imo and they go on every car at some point, and besides at least we dont have to import stuff from japan to keep a fragile expensive to run tin pot motor on the road eh? I heard it's fairly easy to get a 24v head on too!WTF?!?There are some pretty sheddy VRs out there, to be fair, but given the choice between a 150,000 mile 1994 VR6 and a mk3 Astra GSi, mk5 Escort 16V or Renault 19 16V of the same age and mileage, I know which one I'd trust most on a long journey...
