OBD1 Vs OBD2 differences ??

Recommended Posts

I 've just found some White stuff under the oil fillier cap .. of my 94 automatic OBD1 VR...

So this forces my plan to goahead a bit earlier than planed . i am thinking of changing the Engine for a manual OBD2 engine and box. which i have locked away ..

Does anyone know what i need to be looking out for ?

is the wireing the same or will i have to change the whole loom ???

also the Auto box has a loom going to it , can oi just cutt this off once i put in the manual ??

well, i think the easiest thing would be to use the basic obd2 engine with your obd1 anciliaries, thus making the engine obd1. but, it'll be easieser to replace the head gasket on your current engine and keep that, if thats whats actually wrong.

the gearbox may well be the hardest bit...not sure what has to be done.

Just out of interest, is there any code (on the vin plate etc) that will confirm whether it's OBD1 or 2?

I have read that you can identify by sight (dizzy cap or coil pack?) but would like to know for sure as my highline is an 95/96 model.
