Check the front tires pressure. If, it's still pull to the left then I won't be surprised it's the front left tie rod.

Have your mechanic also check for front wheel play, and the other tie rod also. You will also need to have the front end alignment once the tie rod is replaced. Hope this help.

cheers - will check pressures on the way home, although have just had 4 new tyre put on, wouldn't put it past the monkeys in the garage to put the wrong pressures in.

wouldn't a bust tie rod affect steering all the time not just breaking?
