It wasn't long before the work commenced on gutting the car completely as you can see. 

After 3 years down the line and whilst it may not look like i've done much, plenty has gone in to this car that you can't see. 

With the engine removed, the bay was repainted. The VR6 lump itself whilst out had extensive work carried out, including chains, guides, headwork and skim, new cams (yet to be fitted), a HOTGOLF lightened flywheel, a V5 gearbox with diesel 5th conversion. With a MK3 VR tank, pump and lines run in, freshly refurbished hubs, bearings and full brake overhaul (inckluding rear axle conversion to discs), Eibach Arbs and polybushed all round this is one sleeper that is hiding her mods well. 

She currently sits in a warm garage in the depths of Kent awaiting for me to pull the old loom and fit the custom made wiring back in place before receiving further time and funds. With a wedding next year and subsequent house purchase/move, time is a little tight but I shall endeavour to have part 2 of this feature to you next summer! However with the purchase of another MK2 just completed, i might not rush quite so much.

Won on eBay as a late night stupid bid I was actually on the look out for an RS turbo of some sort for a project but they were all rotten and £2000 (please don't hate me for this!) so I put a cheeky bid in on this (it was listed as spares or repairs or a donor car) and won it, I quickly realised it was a really genuine full service history albeit rough around the edges car that had gone a bit to far for the previous owner of nearly 10 years to keep up with. I thought I'd tidy it up and use it...... but things have got out hand! Getting the charger on there annoyed me a lot, thought on more than one occasion about leaving it standard, other than that it's been great! I love the fact I've turned something that was pretty close to ending up in a scrap yard into something that turns a lot of heads that lots of people love!

Tbh a pretty straight forward restoration, proper good base and have built a simple car.

Airlift V2 controller packed in along with the manifold 2 weeks after it was fitted, now one of the struts has broke!!!!

When asked if there was anything he wasn't happy with about the whole build, his answer was "it doesn't get used enough!" Point well made I think.

It's burnt me, cut me, broke me and nearly caused divorce. N/A'd, supercharged, turbo'd 12v and now turbo 24v. This months favourite car goes to one of our newest members here on VR6OC. It's TJ Carroll and his lovely mk2 Jetta. It's running the 2.8 24v VR6 in a smoothed and shaved bay. What got you into Dubs -  I think the whole scene seemed more friendly and more supportive than other marques, then at my first show weekend meeting other VR6 owners who had been part of the club for many years, and seeing so many amazing modified cars.
Best feature on your car? - Its a tough one as in the past 3-6 months the whole car has transformed due to different modifications, but it has to be the engine swap, I can't accelerate without having a massive grin plastered over my face, I don't think I'll ever get bored of the noise! This is closely followed by the new interior, and the number plate!
Future Modifications - Eibach or H&R anti roll bar kit, Schrick Cams, full re-spray, uprated Fuel pump, maybe a charger or turbo... I don't think I'll ever run out of things to do!
Favourite other members car - Its difficult to pinpoint just one as there are lots of cars in the club I really like for different reasons and good to see the evolving work going into them whether its an oem example or big power show car but if I had to pick it would be Gethins mk3 24v (VIW 28)

the downs consist of basically every MOT (as with most older cars!) there's normally a problem that is a total pain to sort out, but the downs are definitely outweighed by the ups, I love my car, and get so much enjoyment out of cleaning it, driving it and getting it to a show!!

you're like a VR6 god or something ^o)

His inspiration for the project is down to one thing "it started out pretty standard....I soon wanted more power so started looking at going the supercharger route. At that time, I had a friend who bought a mk2 golf with the intention of dropping a 1.8t 20v lump into it, and fitting it with a modified syncro/haldex set-up" a modification rarely seen on these pages. Paul soon realised that a measly supercharger wouldn't satisfy his quest for more horses or do the syncro/haldex modification any justice "I decided to change my mind and fit a turbo instead!" Paul then got quite lucky in his search for some uprated parts that could handle the increased power and led him to find suitable gearbox on ebay "Aswell as the gearbox, he had most of the rest of the drivetrain from a mk4 golf r32 for sale!... I'd already helped my mate convert his mk2 into a haldexed golf, so didn't really think twice about doing it for a second time." As you do!?! "as luck just happened to be on my side at the time, a complete syncro rear subframe came up on the weekend i'd planned to collect the haldex system! Bonus!" What a result!

A handy welder, Paul made most of the other parts himself and the car is already running 273 bhp and some good 1/4 mile times and this is just the start. He's not one for polish and the clay bar though he did win a trophy last Billing meet! ;-) This was for the best modification and I'm actually not 100% for which one as everyone was so impressed with his work!

I asked him which shows he enjoys and Paul says "I haven’t been to many shows, but i did enjoy the annual meet! The weather and the company were brilliant, and really enjoyed just having a weekend away with like minded people" He's certainly more at home with the smell of fumes and I expect you'll find him at Santa Pod this year blasting up the strip "One of the first meets (can't really call it a show) was the rwyb night racing at Santa pod. It was my first time to put faces to names! And what a cracking night we had! Well it was until getting woken up in the morning by someone (Jake) shouting "its bloody snowing! come on people get up, we need to leave NOW before we get snowed in!" and as I've mentioned he regularly meets up with the ever increasing Team South contingent led by our mysterious and illusive Stig "the local meets are a good place to catch up with other members (and ex owner members!) and see how their projects are progressing"

The VR bug has been spreading contagiously in the Parky household as Paul recently bought his girlfriend a gorgeous Mulberry Highline (slight bias there) named Harry... there's a lesson in that boys! ;-) http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?369103.0 His other half Katie has got well into the maintenance of her new pride and joy and I'm not sure who's been driving Harry the most recently... :-* Yes I know it's a bit late but better late than never?.... I blame all the snow... ;-)

Anyway.... still keeping with the 'White' stuff theme a big congratulations goes to the choice for this month's feature car... George Wilson known to you all as geo7087.

George is a relatively new member to the forum, having only joined last June but has very quickly made himself at home here and his car will be representing the club at the national Ultimate Dubs show at the Telford International Centre next month. :-)

As I am sure you know we welcome new members on a regular basis and encourage them to meet us all at shows, George is from Cornwall and meets with other SW based members and it's always nice to have more owners from that part of our country - a bit of a VW mecca!

George is not new to Dubs or the modding scene and had a mk3 1.4 that was nicely styled prior to buying his VR6 and he has obviously carried over his sense of what good.... scrap that I mean great... looks like when making the modifications and developing his personal touches on his current VR. VR’s run in the family his mother had 2 VR’s when he was younger so he’s always had a soft spot for the mk3!

The 1.4 was badly damaged as a result of a break in and George liked the mk3 so much he says that ''since owning that car I've always wanted another'' and he's certainly made his mark on this VR.

So George set about the search after joining the forum and found this clean example of a white VR with some modifications already made:

As you can see from that list George does not hang around and the car benefits from a good mixture of subtle styling mods and amazing attention to detail. George went with a red and white theme for a few months when he joined the club and has changed lights, painted bits and filters a fair few times! Since recently acquiring a Vento front end he's going for an all white smooth theme which looks imho Amazing! You can see why his car caught the eye of the mods when choosing cars for the Ultimate Dubs show and we're delighted he's on the stand. White certainly is the new Mulberry!

George has had a few running issues this year, as we all do from time to time, and almost came to selling his lovely VR but all seems to be well thanks to the advice and encouragement from the those on this site, he is currently working hard to get his plans complete for the 12th March so do watch this space for the finished article though judging by his previous behaviour it wont stay like that for long!
